By no means is the combat system bad, but there is a lot of improvement that needs to happen within the next game. With a character like Spidey, there are so many possibilities for combat mechanics and Insomniac did a brilliant job of including a huge array of options.

Playing as an older Peter Parker allowed the developers to have him develop his costume to incorporate all kinds of technology. With nearly every suit came its own special power, such as increased strength or some kind of special move. Multiple gadgets are available to use alongside many combo attack options.

While the mechanics themselves are fantastic, they have do have a huge flaw; They're rarely needed in a large percentage of combat situations. There are enemy types that require special moves in order to damage them, but more often than not, the player can do that once and continue mashing the square button.

The multiple suit powers tend to be ignored. One of the earliest powers - Web Blossom - is so overpowered that it can often end a fight before it even starts, so players don't need to use any of the other options.

For the next instalment, Insomniac need to find a way to make players think tactically during fights and actually utilise the many different combinations already available.
