Spider-Man PS4: Every Boss Ranked From Worst To Best

2. Mister Negative

You'll have three encounters with Mister Negative throughout the game, and each of them presents a welcome shift away from more conventional arena-type boss fights towards something more interesting, eerie and cinematic.

The first showdown with Martin Li's malevolent alter-ego occurs during an electrifying vehicular chase, with Negative causing Peter to hallucinate himself inside a shadowy realm, where he battles a fleet of anonymous lost souls. It's more of a cinematic encounter than a true boss fight, but a welcome, creepy break from the norm all the same.

Part two is a simpler battle on a subway train in Grand Central Station, a super-confined, linear dodge-and-punch-fest which concludes with a spectacularly funny nod to the iconic train sequence from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2.

The final fight against Negative and the true boss battle returns Peter to the hallucinogenic realm, where we're treated to a wonderfully surreal, cinematic travelogue of Martin Li's turmoil before the fight kicks off.

Unsurprisingly, it's one of the toughest fights in the entire game: Negative attacks hard and fast, while hurling more lost souls and an actual giant Demon your way for good measure.

The climactic battle itself is entertainingly challenging, but it's the brilliant cinematics and entrancingly weird visuals that really push this one over the top.
