Spider-Man PS4: 10 Comic Storylines Insomniac Must Use

3. Maximum Carnage

No matter which way you look at it, the '90s really weren't a good time for Spider-Man. Sure, the entire 'XTREME' nature of the medium during the decade had a negative impact on pretty much everything that wasn't Batman or the X-Men, but the wall-crawler fared particularly poorly.

You had the Clone Saga which, apart from just being a plain awful mess of nigh-epic proportions, is unanimously considered as being the worst comic book event in history. It lasted for a whole two years too, which in comic book years probably feels like a decade. Not a great way to start off the entry then, is it?

One shining beacon in the sea of roid-infused dreck that is '90s Spider-Man however is Maximum Carnage - a tale produced by prominent Marvel scribes Tom DeFalco, J. M. De Matteis, Terry Kavanagh, and David Michelinie. It surrounds fan favourite Spidey villain Cletus Kasady as he assembles a band of murderous cohorts to basically wreak havoc upon New York. In response, Peter Parker, Venom, Captain America, Iron Fist, Black Cat, and more all assemble to take them down. It's nothing too intellectually provocative, but serves as a great Spider-Man tale nonetheless. It even made for a pretty neat game back in the day too.
