Star Wars: 10 Best Starfighter Games You Need To Play
6. Star Wars Episode 1: Battle For Naboo
This game, as one would assume, takes place during the events of The Phantom Menace. You play as Gavyn Sykes, a Nabooian (Nabooite?) pilot in the Royal Security Force. Using a variety of vehicles, you take the fight to the Trade Federation, whose command ships are hanging over your planet.
The game is considered a spiritual successor to Rogue Squadron (both were developed by Factor 5), but steps the action up to include water levels. The number of vehicles you can pick from grows along with the game environments, and the studio once again included several unlockable secret ships, including fan favourite Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator and, again, that famous 1969 Buick Electra, as well as three secret levels.
In a first for any Star Wars game, each level also includes sketches and audio commentary from the developers that can be unlocked through inputting the proper password. If you manage to gather all fifteen passwords, you can hear roughly an hour's worth of material.
The controls were simple and tight (on the Nintendo 64 version; the PC port was a bit sloppy), the action was fast, and the game basically took everything good about Rogue Squadron and ramped it up.
