Star Wars: 10 Best Starfighter Games You Need To Play
5. Star Wars: X-Wing
1993's X-Wing was not only LucasArts' first space simulation, it was also their first self-made Star Wars game. On release LucasArts had no idea what a hit they had on their hands. This was quickly proven when the initial run of 100,000 games sold out the first weekend they were for sale.
X-Wing allows you to slip on the flight suit of a Rebel pilot just before the attack on the first Death Star. If you play the full game and two expansion packs, you move through the Star Wars timeline up to the establishment of the Rebel base on Hoth.
The game has a steep learning curve; you are responsible for just about every aspect of the operation of your ship - weapons, shields, engines, energy management, targeting, and your wing men. Through the course of the game, you take the controls of A-wings, X-wings, Y-wings, and B-wings, running through primary and secondary mission objectives (that were quite rigid in nature) to achieve victory.
X-Wing paved the way for a excellent series of flight-sim games to follow, and for the first time let fans get as close as possible to the chaos and adrenaline that result from piloting iconic spacecraft into battle.
