Star Wars Battlefront: 5 Things You Need To Know About The New Single Player Mode
4. It Plays Exactly Like Online
So what's Skirmish like to play? Well, not all that different to online. There's two modes available, Walker Assault and Vehicle Battles, which operate similar to their online counterparts, right down to the giving of NPCs gamer tags.
In terms of gameplay, the big difference is that you have the opportunity to make a sizeable, dominant difference in the game - the enemy AI plays more like you'd expect and there's no OP'd, high-level players. It's basically a pure Battlefront experience.
I'm not sure how much this will add to the game's longevity, however, as in terms of mechanics it's nothing all that new. Instead, this is about giving those who aren't big online fans the chance to play the game, albeit in the same form (which is odd given how offline players tend to prefer different experiences).
This also means that while it's being pitched as the game finally going offline, it's not the full single player experience most wanted; no Campaign, no Galactic Conquest, not even Instant Action. To EA's credit they've not sold it as any of those (that's fan/press explosion), but it still means the game is a long way off matching the originals.
