Star Wars: Battlefront II - What Does The Ending Really Mean?
6. The Emperor's Collection
Palpatine might be long dead by the time the game reaches its second act, but his influence is still being felt right across the galaxy.
Nowhere is this influence more strongly felt, however, than with Luke Skywalker. Shifting from the perspective of Versio to follow Skywalker, the game takes players to Pillio where the Jedi, seemingly drawn to the planet by its residual force energy, hunts for an ancient artefact. The Empire (or what remains of it), is also there, and it's not long before Luke finds himself in a chance encounter with Meeko, a moment that would later prove to be a defining moment in the character's shift from dark to light.
Luke finally gets the answer for what he was looking for when he stumbles upon one of the Emperor's old vaults, which Meeko was tasked with destroying as per Operation Cinder's protocol. Luke uncovers the artefact in question, but the vault itself is left undisturbed, chock full of ancient artefacts pertinent to both the Sith and Jedi causes.
Time will only tell if Kylo also stumbled upon the vault, but this also lays an interest precedent. Could Palpatine have harboured other relics on different planets? If so, it stands to reason that Kylo and the Knights of Ren would also be interested in pursuing them, if not Luke himself.
