We know what you're thinking; not every game is inspired by Dark Souls. In this case though, there are some genuine similarities, and they work in the game's favor.

First of all are the healing items. During combat, Cal can ask BD-1 to give him a stim-pack to restore his health. These are limited by how many you find in the game and from getting to save points, which means they likely to be quite limited.

Then there are the meditation points, which are very similar to bonfires. Here you can restore your health and upgrade Cal, and this is the only place to do it. No menu options to upgrade here.

Then there are the combat similarities, which place the game much more closely to something like Sekiro. Parrying and timing play a much more important role than just blindly attacking, and both Cal and his enemies have stamina bars that reduce after taking and giving hits.

These inspirations are certainly going to serve the game well in the long-term.
