Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Hands On - 10 Things We Learned

5. There's Major Depth To Customisation

We didn't get too great a look at Fallen Order's customisation, but what was there showed promise. The thing players will most be keen to learn about - understandably - is the game's lightsaber. It was only at the base level during the point at which we jumped in, but playing around with the customisation mechanics quickly confirmed that you'll be able to customise your weapon to an acute level.

Crystals are of course the biggest concern, and the demo provided us with two to choose from - the trademark blue and green the Jedi most commonly use. Kestis canonically wields a blue blade, but for the sake of variety I gave him a green one. Respawn have already confirmed that other colours will be available though, with the orange sabre being restored to canon this time around, and several other crystals and variations available over the course of the game's story.

Apart from crystals, Fallen Order also allows players to customise the alloy (or material) their lightsaber is made of. Emitters also influence its design, while a selection of hilts will also be present come launch.

If that isn't enough, Cal himself will also come with various outfits too. There are a few pre-selected skins, and also - surprisingly - an ungodly amount of ponchos. They all look great though, and hey, if you fancy making Cal a Man With No Name stand-in, the poncho's a must to complete the look.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
