15. The Callisto Protocol's First Gameplay Invokes Dead Space... A Lot

Though upcoming survival horror game The Callisto Protocol technically isn't in the same universe as the Dead Space games, going by the gameplay reveal at Summer Games Fest it sure as hell looks like it is.

Given that developer Striking Distance Studios was founded by Dead Space's co-creator Glen Schofield, then, that shouldn't be terribly surprising.

Even so, its status as a spiritual successor to Dead Space was cemented with this grisly first look at The Callisto Protocol's gameplay.

The similarities speak for themselves: the gameplay seems to revolve around dismembering grotesque alien creatures while controlling a soldier wearing an armoured spacesuit with a health readout on the back, in a multitude of oppressively gloomy environments.

The greater emphasis on melee combat helps differentiate it somewhat, though, and it should provide an agreeably gnarly lead-in to next January's Dead Space remake when it launches on PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles on December 2nd.
