Sunset Overdrive: 10 Things It Does Better Than Anyone Else
9. Insanely Bright, Unique Visuals
Generally speaking, Microsoft's key exclusive titles don't really have a bright and colourful reputation. Halo is perhaps an exception with several bright, outdoor levels but large segments of the game also feature Master Chief stumbling through dark alien structures. With massively bright colours and design, Sunset Overdrive is unlike any game the Xbox One has seen and it stands out a mile as a result. Given Insomniac Games' previous work on Spyro The Dragon and Ratchet & Clank, that's unsurprising. Sunset City is full of vibrant colour and it's a blast to explore as a result, even without the technical thrills of 1080p. In-game, Overcharge attracts the mutated OD when spilled and it's bright orange colour instantly makes it recognisable, alerting the player that there's an opportunity for mayhem here. There's a variety of status effects and inflictions which the player can use to their advantage and these are clearly highlighted by the use of vivid colour too. Fire and explosions look phenomenal when contrasted with the sheen of Sunset City's buildings and freeze attacks stand out a mile too. The colour palette of a game might not seem like a majorly interesting feature, but it brings the world to life and sucks you in before you've even blasted an OD in the face.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
