Sunset Overdrive: 10 Things It Does Better Than Anyone Else

8. Wacky Customisation Options

Sunset Overdrive has an insane amount of customisation options. Starting out with gender and body types (slim to hulking), the player then picks a hairstyle, face and an outfit from the hundreds of options available. It might lack the fine tuning of games like Skyrim or The Sims but with a wide variety of characterful options and styles, you'll never find two characters totally alike. The variety of clothes on offer is immense too. Dead Rising was always a series that allowed players to go crazy when picking up items for customisation purposes and Overdrive feels similar in a lot of ways. There's a multitude of masks and headgear which allow you to standout from the crowd and an array of shirts, jeans, jackets and shoes to select from to give your crazed hero just the right outfit. This is best showcased in Chaos Squad - the game's online mode. Here, you can really see the wide range of characters the game allows you to create, even if the basic tools are relatively simple. Customisation will always be a small feature for many, but more games need to take notice of how Sunset Overdrive simplifies the process and makes the whole thing ridiculously entertaining.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
