Sunset Overdrive: 10 Things It Does Better Than Anyone Else

7. Brilliantly Over-The-Top Boss Battles

Boss battles are a major part of any video game and different series approach them in different ways. Sunset Overdrive's unique style of combat was always going to bring fun and eventful boss encounters but Insomniac went above and beyond anyway. The scale of these boss battles is impressive and each one tasks you to use your characters' movement abilities in order to gain the upper hand. The first encounter for example, is with a giant Fizzie blimp that shoots lasers from its eyes. Dodging these is merely one part of the fight - you also have to bounce on a series of platforms to stun the blimp, making it vulnerable to your attacks. Another fight sees you taking on a giant mutated dragon, where in order to land the killing blow you need to grind on it's back and deliver a melee blast to the back of the head. It's one of the most satisfying things you'll ever do in a video game, especially this year. As said before, the scale of these battles is incredible. The Fizzie battle takes place high above the city on a series of rails that surround a radio tower; one slip or missed bounce and your character is in for a long fall, adding an extra element of drama to the proceedings. The majority of missions in Sunset Overdrive are a blast but the boss battles serve as a particularly exciting challenge.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
