Sunset Overdrive: 10 Things It Does Better Than Anyone Else
3. Intense And Exciting Shooting
There's a whole bunch of third-person shooters on the market nowadays but Sunset Overdrive stands a mile ahead of them in terms of gameplay. Half of that is down to it's impressive focus on movement and style - the other half is because the shooting mechanics are so freaking awesome. As stated before, Sunset Overdrive is built from the ground up to make movement a key feature. Grinding, bouncing and doing basically anything aside from standing around will build up your combo meter and that powers up your Overcharge amps, giving you combat bonuses. As a result, in combat, you'll be grinding and bouncing around while mowing down enemies with your weapons, always looking for ways to keep off the ground and keep the combo going. It's fast paced (and a little panicky at first) but you'll grow into it and it all becomes very natural. Insomniac opted to keep the resolution of the game at 900p so more enemies and action could feature on screen at once and it was a decision that works beautifully. Hundreds of enemies can be on screen at one time, and mowing down entire mobs of them at once is insanely fun. Sunset Overdrive brings a lot of innovation to the third-person genre but it never allows the shooting elements to be compromised; every instance of combat is fun, varied and exciting.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
