The flagship title for the launch of their swanky new Gamecube system, Nintendo wanted Super Mario Sunshine to have a unique feature that would show off the improved capabilities from their previous games. The Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device, known as F.L.U.D.D., was first introduced as a water pack invented by Professor Elvin Gadd and was used to clean up the goop splashed around Isle Delfino.

F.L.U.D.D. features a large water, two handles and four unique hose types. Players can switch between the Squirt, Turbo, Rocket or Hover modes on the contraption, adding a whole host of ways to scale around the open worlds and levels, all of which require some pretty intense manipulation of the machine to fully complete.

F.L.U.D.D. is also unique in the fact that it is an artificial intelligence-based machine. Super Mario Sunshine was the first game to introduce cinematic cutscenes and voice actors to the series, and F.L.U.D.D. was played by Kit Harris. A helpful and loveable character that combined both unique gameplay mechanics with a surprisingly deep level of character depth, Mario could definitely do with a reunion with his AI robot friend again.
