Super Mario: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

11. Super Mario 3D Land

There's a quixotic, dream-like aura to Super Mario 3D Land, and not one which leaves you bolt upright after turning up to school naked with half your teeth falling out. It's a lot more pleasant.

Patient 3DS owners were blessed with Mario's finest portable platformer, a halfway house between traditional fare featured in the 'New' offshoots and the three-dimensional obstacle courses of Galaxy. The stereoscopic sections add little and it's a tad on the easy side, but its post-game sees the difficulty sprout higher than a secret beanstalk, offering immense satisfaction through its devious new problems. It's a bitesized chunk that wouldn't quite fill a chain-chomp, but a beauty nontheless.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
