Super Mario: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

10. Super Mario 3D World

Depending on whether you consider Breath of the Wild to be a Wii U game or not (I mean, it literally is), Super Mario 3D World is unquestionably the best the system has to offer. But is that saying much?

Given the limited install base for Nintendo's underwhelming eighth-gen console, Super Mario 3D World may just be the most underrated entry in the long-running series as well. The game is essentially a WADA-contravening Super Mario 3D Land, inflated, extended, and improved in every possible way, albeit with edges soft rather than chiseled. The multiplayer mayhem of the New Super Mario Bros. titles is present with the potential frustration filed away, and that colour-bursting artistry only Nintendo's paintbrush can produce is present in every pixel.

Had Super Mario 3D World landed in more populated waters than the Wii U's, it'd have made a much bigger splash. A shame it didn't, as its absolutely awash with enjoyment.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
