4. The Koopalings
One of the best parts of Super Mario Odyssey was controlling Bowser at the end. So why not add a few more capturable bosses. Taking control of Bowser will always be cooler than controlling one of the weird kids he hangs out with and apparently isn't even related to, but it would still be fun.
Each kingdom in the sequel could end in a boss fight with one of the Koopalings which you'd then have to take control of for a special sequence specially designed around their abilities.
Whilst the Koopalings are often grouped together (as they are in this very article), they all do have unique abilities that would make capturing a new Koopaling something to get excited about.
Larry can use his wand to do magic, Morton can use his hammer, Iggy can have a Chain Chomp as he does in New Super Mario Bros. 2, Wendy can use her magic rings, Roy can use the cannon he has in New Super Mario Bros. U. Lemmy can roll around on his ball, and Ludwig can shoot fire.
People might be sick of the Koopalings at this point, but allowing us to control them would justify them returning.
