Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking All 8 Revealed Kingdoms So Far
1. Mount Volbono - Luncheon Kingdom
The Luncheon Kingdom has received a fair bit of criticism online for looking dull and uninteresting, yet it actually appears to be a rather genius take on the typical lava stage. Mount Volbono is food themed, with strange, sentient forks who walk around on their prongs. The art style is polygonal and full of vivid, one tone colours that pop and look stunning, while the centrepiece volcano itself is also great to see as it spews bright liquid into the sky.
Mario's chef get up looks great too, but it's mostly the way the stage cleverly subverts the usual lava theme to the point where you can barely even tell that's what it's supposed to be - but it's there all the same, with a thick, boiling hot sea that will send Mario careening into the air if he lands in it. Mount Volbono is the most visually striking of the kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey and looks an absolute joy to traverse, using huge cobs of corn to roll across the lava to safety for instance. It's also here that Mario can capture a giant chunk of meat, so that's about as weird as it gets.
