Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking All 8 Revealed Kingdoms So Far
2. Tostarena - Sand Kingdom
What's this? A sand world in second place? Yes indeed. Tostarena not only looks beautiful, with crimson sand juxtaposed with huge glaciers jutting out of the dunes, but it's oozing with character. The Tostarenans themselves are wonderfully designed and the Day of the Dead theme is fairly unique for this kind of stage. The world itself seems to mostly do away with a lot of the conventions that plague sand stages, such as enormous sections of sinking quicksand, and looks a joy to traverse and explore.
Perhaps the fact the level is so exciting though is down to familiarity - it's one of the aspects of the game, much like New Donk City, that we've seen a lot of. Tostarena has been explored pretty thoroughly, and is one of the worlds that has been available for play at numerous events. From this, gamers have been treated to the world's boss fight, and great little details like the Jaxi - a stone lion that acts as a mount for Mario to the cross the huge wasteland. It's also here where Mario also receives his sombrero, which has raised a few eyebrows to say the least.
