Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking Every Boss Encounter From Worst To Best

5. RoboBrood

Madame Broodal Mario Odyssey
Nintendo

Individually the Broodals are dull and inconsequential, but when all four of them team up in Bowser’s Kingdom, they become something extraordinary. Robobrood is the closest the Mario series has ever got to featuring a Power Rangers Megazord, with each of the rabbit bosses piloting a different part of this towering wooden monstrosity.

The Pokio enemies - small birds with long, sharp beaks - are undoubtedly one of Mario’s most fun captures, letting him ram their beak into certain walls and flick himself up to higher ground (it also helps that they’re incredibly cute). Pokio-Mario must use his beak to scale the Robobrood’s increasingly complicated wooden armour, taking out each Broodal in turn.

Bowser’s Kingdom is easily one of the game’s most stunning locations, mixing traditional Mushroom Kingdom imagery with that of feudal Japan, so this boss battle is an appropriately epic way to finish such a brilliant level. The fight is set on the roof of Bowser’s sprawling temple-like constructions and is accompanied by one of the highlight’s from the game’s soundtrack. The cinematic battle, firework-filled climax and unique enemy design mean that this is a boss fight which fans will not soon forget.
