Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking Every Boss Encounter From Worst To Best
2. Mollosque-Lanceur
With a full name like Brigadier Mollosque-Lanceur III, Dauphin of Bubblaine, you can be sure that the boss of the Seaside Kingdom is going to be something extraordinary. And it is.
This regal and haughty octopus has been draining the island resort of its carbonated sea water, and Mario must use the corked fountains spread across the level to knock him off the central structure. After this, the real boss fight begins. Whilst most of the game’s battles take place in walled-off areas, Mollosque-Lanceur is fought with the entirety of the level accessible, which gives the fight an impressive sense of scale.
Such a large playing field is necessary for this battle, as Mario must capture a Gushen enemy and use its unique skillset to beat the boss. Along with the Pokio, the Gushen are the game’s most fun enemy to play as, allowing Mario to squirt out water and hover around the level to reach Lanceur’s exposed weak spot. The abilities of the Gushen are similar to that of F.L.U.D.D. from Super Mario Sunshine, which is appropriate, given how much Bubblaine resembles Isle Delfino. This battle will surely come to be seen as one of Mario’s best of all time.
