6. The Online Mode Is Fantastic

Something that makes Super Mario Run stand above its competitors in the endless runner scene is its sophisticated online mode named Toad Rally. In Toad Rally, players go up against other real life players in order to try and beat their performance on a specific level.

In essence, the player races the other player's ghost, which can be seen in the background jumping, flipping and collecting stars, upping the tension and level of competition.

Performance is based not only on the number of coins collected, but by how many Toads you can attract to cheer you on while playing, gained by pulling off tricky moves, intricate jumps and prolonged combos.

The Toads that show up are important, because they translate to coins in the end, and the player with the most gets to take the other player's Toads back to their kingdom.

It's a very simple inclusion, but my god is it addictive, especially when someone beats you and steals your Toads and you can't help but select rematch to try to win them back...
