11. Yoshi’s Island
It might have been - rather erroneously - titled as a Super Mario World sequel, but honestly, Yoshi's Island has very little in common with its supposed predecessor. Both games are still excellent in their own ways, though.
The game is actually a prequel to the series, starring Yoshi and the adorable (and adorably helpless) Baby Mario against a backdrop of some typically gorgeous, imaginative levels. The game looks almost hand-drawn, which sets it apart from the rest of the series to date, and drinking in those visuals is a huge part of why it's still such a joy to play.
This was escort level gameplay actually done well.
