Super Smash Bros: 10 Game Franchises We NEED To See

One of the most notable successes of the Super Smash Bros franchise has been the attention it has been able to draw to niche or forgotten Nintendo franchises, opening player’s eyes to a gaming world outside of Mario and Zelda.

Captain Falcon and Ness were probably the most niche inclusions in the original game back in 1999, representing F-Zero and Earthbound respectively. They have since been joined by a huge range of individuals from Nintendo’s library, including retro additions like the Ice Climbers, Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B, whilst more recent secondary successes like Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles are now also represented.

That leaves very few first party Nintendo franchises that haven’t been worked into the games. Many fans clamoured for inclusions from Advance Wars in Brawl, but that series has now been dormant since 2008. That leaves Golden Sun as perhaps the most notable absentee.

A fantastic RPG, Golden Sun has been somewhat forgotten about since the DS release of Dark Dawn in 2010, with developers Camelot now seemingly used only to create Mario Sports games. Lead character Isaac would be a great fit for the Super Smash Bros roster (and a refreshing alternative to even more Fire Emblem characters, of which there are now 8) but has somehow only managed to show up as an assist trophy so far.
