Super Smash Bros: 10 Game Franchises We NEED To See
2. Borderlands
A frequent criticism of Nintendo throughout the years has been their seeming unwillingness to work with third party developers. Many huge franchises have always (and many still do) only called the Playstation and Xbox home, with almost all of the biggest selling games on Nintendo consoles being created in part by the Japanese company themselves.
With the release of the Switch, that attitude seems to be changing. Many series are coming to Nintendo for the first time or in cases such as the aforementioned Mortal Kombat, back to them after several decades of being absent, making the Switch the most stacked system since the Nintendo 64.
One of these is Borderlands, the loot shooter that prides itself on having several billion procedurally-generated weapon combinations available for players to wreak havoc. With a completely unique visual style, a story and world full of weird and wonderful characters and hugely enjoyable single and multiplayer gameplay, it has easily become 2k’s biggest non-sports franchise.
This graphical style and emphasis on insane combat makes it a fantastic match for the world of Super Smash Bros, where zany weaponry and innovative ways to attack opponents are the order of the day. Throwing one the more beloved vault hunters (such as Lillith or Zer0) into the fray alongside the iconic Claptrap would certainly make humour (and explosions) ensue.
Having the Macho Man Randy Savage, sorry, Mr. Torgue, drop in as a commentary-spouting assist trophy would also be nothing short of sensational.
