Super Smash Bros. Switch: 10 Overpowered Characters It Must Fix

7. Mario

Wait, Mario's overpowered in Smash?!

As it turns out, Mario's Wii U and 3DS iteration has amazing combo setup, smash attacks and balanced strength and speed that more than make up for his weak specials and recovery.

The main thing that puts this version of Mario high above his other iterations is his combo game. Mario's down throw and up tilt in particular are amazing at causing damage to pile up fast. Finishing these combos off with his reliable side or up smash also mean that Mario is an effective ground fighter.

Mario even manages to have strength in the air with his famous meteor spike and back tilt, both of which are amazing at keeping opponents juggled.

Mario is kept somewhat balanced because of his lack of a good recovery move and fairly unhelpful specials. Besides the cape, which extends his air movement and can switch up players, Mario is essentially left to use his basic combos to get by.

That's all well and good, but Mario is still extremely powerful even without effective specials. As the one character who's supposed to be a good first choice, Mario definitely needs to be a little more balanced.
