Super Smash Bros Wii U And 3DS: 5 Things We Learned At E3

3. It's Optimised For Gamecube Controllers

One of the other big reveals for Nintendo at E3 were the brand new Gamecube controllers they're releasing especially for the Wii U, which is essentially the gaming giants admitting that they created the perfect gamepad thirteen years ago (yes, we too held our heads in our hands and considered our mortality after looking that up), that everybody is over motion controls (Microsoft are trying to convince us of that, at least), and they can't really improve on the original. So, most of the play of Super Smash Bros Wii has happened at the hands of Gamecube-style controls. Which makes sense, because it was Super Smash Bros Melee - the Gamecube incarnation of the series - that really introduced all of the things that make the Smash Bros games so much fun. So not only does it look like the game is best played with these controls, but Nintendo have gone and unveiled so gorgeous new colour schemes for the gamepads, themed around Mario, Peach and Yoshi. We're still swooning over all of this.
