Team Fortress 2: 15 Stupidest Additions So Far

10. Mantreads

Sometimes an idea is great, but the baggage that comes with it prevents it from being a contender. That’s what the Mantreads felt like; a really cool idea that possessed absolutely zero practicality. With every weapon in Team Fortress 2 you could probably find an optimal use for it in any given scenario, whatever the map and whatever the game-mode, but the Mantreads seemed to act more like just a fun muck-about toy, and displayed high levels of uselessness.

The Mantreads replace the secondary weapon for the Soldier (that’s your shotgun, your buff banner etc.) and if you fall on someone’s head, you do damage to them, or just crush them, whichever comes first. The best way to utilize this is to rocket-jump around the map, maintaining a lot of height, and then dive-bombing onto people. Such a satisfying kill. It also reduced push-back from bullets and explosions.

But there’s only really one map this item comes in handy, and that’s plr_hightower, a place populated solely by Soldiers flying around the map trying to get those Mantread kills; trying to justify their existence. Sadly, as far as weapons go, there are so many better ones available.
