Team Fortress 2: 15 Stupidest Additions So Far
9. Short Circuit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF3NvmdRussHere’s another unfortunate example of great idea, terrible execution. The Short Circuit was added as part of a promotional set of weapons released in conjuncture with Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it was basically a laser-hand for the Engineer class. Y’know, to keep true to the 1950’s design of the game: space-lasers in lieu of a severed hand.
The purpose it was supposed to serve was a noble one. The lasers would do a pathetically weedy amount of damage against players, but would be great at dispatching projectiles like rockets, sticky-bombs and pipe grenades. It used metal instead of ammo, which meant you’d probably need to camp by your nearest dispenser of metal and spam the laser until you achieved your desired result. It couldn’t stop bullets though, and you would need to quickly switch out to your wrench to repair your buildings; making defence hard to micro-manage.
It’s even been buffed since to try and get people to use it more, but it still isn’t good enough to live up to its purpose. It’s pathetic and all it really does is makes your arm look stupid, and pales in comparison to the badass Gunslinger robo-hand you could be sporting. Or just any other Engineer weapon, really.
