The Tekken franchise was in trouble after Tekken Tag Tournament 2 failed to meet sales expectations. So when the time came for the next instalment, the decision was made to cut down the budget and pair down the cast. The result was Tekken 7 - a title that despite its limitations, proved to do good for the series.

A big new addition was the Rage Art System - a cinematic move that allowed you to turn the tide of the battle in an instant, making Tekken more accessible to newcomers who found the series too technical to try out. Aside from mechanics, the game's lifecycle was extended due to numerous DLC guest fighters, from The Walking Dead's Negan to Final Fantasy XV's Noctis.

But not all these characters proved to be favorites as Tekken 7 had some of the weakest newcomers in the series from Gigas to Lucky Chloe, The budget cuts were also very apparent, with the Story Mode feeling barebones while character models and animation looked dated.

Still, these setbacks didn't stop Tekken 7 from becoming a massive success, powering the franchise through to the mighty Tekken 8.
