Tekken: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Tekken 7
The newest Tekken falls short of true greatness thanks to hinting at another Tekken 4-esque switch-up of the core mechanics, yet stops short of anything monumental.
That said, now characters have 'Rage Arts' - Street Figher-esque attacks that trigger when on low health, which nine times out of ten will win you the match. They also have certain moves that come labelled as 'Power Crushes', meaning all damage will be absorbed as they careen forward regardless, sometimes meaning you can barrel right through an opponent's defence for the win.
Although both of these make for more intense duels (and the slow-motion cam that zooms in when both characters are on low health is genius), Tekken 7 doesn't do enough to whip out the party poppers.
Its story mode is bare bones, nonsensical and straight-up boring, the new characters are just as bad as Tekken 6, and there are key modes (Team Battle, anyone?) missing from release, though gameplay is some of the absolute best we've ever seen.
It's one hell of a trade-off, but ultimately knocks this latest instalment out of the top running.
