The Avengers Project: 10 Things It Must Include
2. Skill Trees
Being able to switch between each character should mean they level up at different paces. And that’s fine; if you use Hawkeye the most, you want him to be the strongest. Not really sure anyone would, but the point still stands.
With so many different gadgets and gizmos across the six original movie Avengers, a skill tree seems like the best way to go. Sticking with Hawkeye for now, dropping new players into the game with his entire quiver might be a little overwhelming.
However, starting with just basic arrows until you get enough XP to unlock more provides more of a curve, and also lets you choose your playstyle, as previously mentioned. Fire arrows first? Shock arrows? Trip wires?
Games need to show progress, and the alternative to the Batman: Arkham model just discussed is a Destiny style, percentage model. Yes, your punches might do 34% more damage and running might be 10% faster, but you don’t feel like you’ve improved in a way skill trees let you.
Perhaps the sidequest characters like Riri Williams could unlock sections of your skill tree the more you help them. There could even be some character-exclusive missions to unlock a special move.
