The Division: 10 Brand New Details You Need To Know About
8. The HUD Is PACKED With Icons And Things To Take in
Once you start thinking of The Division as a business venture, a whole lot more of it makes sense. Ubisoft can certainly tick the boxes for artistic integrity when it comes to Grow Home and Valiant Hearts, but when the higher-ups are funding a multi-million dollar project, they need a guaranteed return on that investment. And what medium brings in the most cash, versus amount spent? Mobile gaming. Look at anything from Clash of Clans to Game of War; their HUDs are positively rammed full of stats to keep track of, things to take into account when deciding what course of action to take - and ultimately, things to distract you from the fact that what you're doing - mechanically - is very simple. As such, The Division's HUD is a fireworks display. A veritable cornucopia of high-contrast colours popping off as you gain XP, weapons land on the field and bonus items are thrown in your face. This isn't inherently a bad thing, in fact it could be incredibly fun and enjoyable - but don't for a second think that the designers aren't fully aware of exactly how to flick the primal pleasure centres of your brain for maximum profit.
