The Division: 10 Brand New Details You Need To Know About

6. Controls Are Basically Gears Of War

Now, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Gears managed to retain its crown as king of the third-person shooter genre for the entirety of the 2000s, thanks to a perfect blend of stop n' pop shooting mixed with occasional melee attacks, so if you're going to ape any game, it might as well be Epic's magnum opus. Thing is... a lot of people are more than a tired of third-person cover shooters. Following Gears' rise to prominence, everybody from Uncharted to Harry Potter had varying degrees of iteration applied to their titles, and when Watch Dogs showed up and face-planted the floor in 2014, it was more of the same yet again. Controls for The Division include popping into cover, doing the hunkered down 'roadie run' between each point - even the dodge-roll animations look very similar so far. Going off comments that outlets have made after playing more than a few hours, it appears your unlocks are tiered to weapons and items, as oppose to anything that will actually change how you play, other than perhaps setting up turrets or switching to drones.
