The Division: 10 Ways You’re Playing It Wrong
5. You're Not Experimenting With The Abilities
The abilities of a Division agent are a large part of what sets them apart from the struggling JTF officers or the multiple enemy gangs laying waste to the city. They supplement the player's skills with a rifle by offering an explosive touch, a healing hand or even a mine that will seek out nearby enemies and blast them to pieces.
These unlock and upgrade with the Base of Operations as we've previously discussed, but it's easy to get stuck in the belief that sticking with certain ones is an adequate strategy. There's a reason the abilities can be changed fairly quickly, however, and it's right that you should be encouraged to do so.
The most obvious factor in how you should pick your abilities will be the enemies you're facing. You'll find the turret useful at suppressing the Rioters who have charging tendencies, but will notice that the sticky bomb can be lethal against Cleaners if you manage to catch one of their fuel tanks to set off a deadly chain reaction.
I worked almost exclusively with the portable cover and sticky bomb in my early hours, but found so much more success by studying the effectiveness against different foes. Do not be afraid to experiment with them yourself.
