The Elder Scrolls: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Khajit

8. M'aiq The Liar Is Actually Several Different People

There arguably isn't a NPC thrown up in the Elder Scrolls universe more beloved and speculated about than M'aiq the Liar.

First appearing back in Morrowind as a wandering monk placed by developers to dish out easter eggs, he has since appeared in Oblivion, Skyrim and Online as a rare encounter and a continued source of fun for players to look out for.

A lot has been made of M'aiq's quips and comments over the years, with some of his claims sounding almost prophetic, whilst otherwise are so obviously impossible or untrue.

Nevertheless speculation over M'aiq's true identity has been rife around Elder Scrolls fans for years now, though there's never been a concrete answer supplied by Bethesda to date.

One of the most popular fan theories circulating around is that M'aiq is an immortal God, forever wandering around the world and taking in its beauty and people.

Sadly it's pretty likely that isn't the case. In Elder Scrolls Online, players who meet M'aiq might hear him explaining that his father was a 'known liar', and in Elder Scrolls Skyrim he goes one further by saying: 'M'aiq's father was also called M'aiq. As was M'aiq's father's father. At least, that is what his father said. But then again, you can never trust a liar.'

There's obviously no way of knowing the truth until Bethesda reveals it, but it looks like Tamriel has had countless generations of strange Khajiit called M'aiq roaming around.
