The Elder Scrolls VI: 10 Skyrim Mods That Must Be Included

7. Master Of Disguise

Harkening back to the days of Fallout: New Vegas, this mod tries to emulate the faction armour system, but to a whole new level. Master of Disguise implements a system that not only takes the faction armour your wearing, but considers a multitude of other factors to determine whether or not you will pass as that faction. Race, sneak and illusion, all come into play when trying to fool others of your allegiance.

With a surprising degree of depth, the mod not only makes certain faction armours, trigger those of opposite allegiance to attack, but it allows you to sneak through enemy territory. Pretending to be a forsworn to sneak through the many camps in the reach can allow for a great deal of opportunities for players to make choices about how they play. Stealing a guard’s uniform after breaking free from jail can allow you to walk from the city a free man.

The faction armour system was a welcome addition to Fallout: New Vegas and removing it from future instalments of Bethesda’s games was a bad decision. Having the option to uses armours to your advantage and truly show your allegiance for better or for worse adds a level of immersion that the games are crying out for. Master of Disguise not only takes the idea, but expands on it greatly and Bethesda can learn from it.

It did get quite jarring when you could walk up to Ulfric Stormcloak in full Imperial garb, and he’d greet you as if you were an old friend.
