The Elder Scrolls VI: 10 Things Bethesda Must Include

9. Better Follower Control During Missions/After Hiring

Possibly a slippy slope to go down, being a large part of the TES experience is carving your own individual path across Tamriel, but occasionally it is fun to bring an NPC along for the ride.

I say 'occasionally', because the reality of doing so often takes a turn for the worse. Bethesda's A.I. has never been all too reliable, and whether you're recruiting a follower or escorting someone in a quest, more often than not they'll get themselves killed or break the immersion.

Trying to lay low to get some stealthy headshots? Nope, your NPC just ran in, screaming as they go. How about being close to finishing a mission on a town in the hills? There they go awkwardly sliding down the mountainside...

Let us place them in specific spots to spring an ambush, perhaps give them "If X, then Y"-style commands, Final Fantasy XII-style, to allow for healing or defence-based roles, or give us a handful of basic instructions that can be used without having to look directly at them.

As it stands, Bethesda's runaway scripting can certainly make for some hilarious moments, but it's not reliable in the slightest.
