The Elder Scrolls VI Wishlist: 10 Essential Things Fans Demand

7. Meaty & Responsive Combat

Continuing from the animation point, although TES' combat models are always fun enough in a first-person hack n' slash kinda way, it's about time Bethesda added a solid amount of mechanics to ensure more intense battles truly feel like a life or death situations. Case in point; the sieges of either the Imperial or Stormcloak encampments in Skyrim. For the most part you waded on in, hit all manner of soldiers with your weapons and spent more time judging if a hit had registered by eyeballing the lifebar at the top of the screen, than any sort of worthwhile feedback. To parallel The Witcher 3 again, CD Projekt RED actually brought in a real-world sword-master Maciej Kwiatkowski to motion-capture a variety of pirouettes, athletic dodges and specific foot placements, all giving that game's fights their whole 'dance of death'-type feel. Naturally TES VI would benefit more from a more 'epic' sensation of combat including spells and the occasional summon, but if the utilisation of blocking, parrying and reposting was governed far more by timing and picking your moments to attack, it'd increase the satisfaction of learning the skills to win that much more rewarding in the long run.
