The Game Awards 2016: Who Deserves To Win Each Category
8. Best RPG - Dark Souls III
Nominations:
Dark Souls 3
Deus EX: Mankind Divided
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood & Wine
World of Warcraft: Legion
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Props to CD Projekt RED for creating a DLC so detailed and genuinely huge that it ends up qualifying for a full game nomination, but I'm still throwing out Dark Souls III as a monumentally efficient package.
Being this is FromSoftware's fourth Souls game (Demon's was 2009), you can tell they've ironed out all the kinks - not to mention series' mastermind Hidetaka Miyazaki returned to direct this one, resulting in one of the most detailed and gorgeous game worlds this generation.
You can tell Miyazaki learned a ton from the more horror-tinged Bloodborne, too, helping create some truly disgusting monster designs - all of which you can kill in thousands of different ways thanks to endless combinations of play-style, weapon and item combinations and crafting components.
By including a ton of subtle nods to the original, it doesn't matter if you've never played a Souls game before or you're a series diehard, this third instalment is by far and away the best 2016 RPG you need to play.
