The Game Awards 2018: 15 Things We Learned

9. Atlas Looks Like A Better Sea of Thieves

Ark developer Wildcard revealed their new massive multiplayer pirate-themed adventure game Atlas, and from the brief teaser trailer, it feels like it could end up delivering what Sea of Thieves failed to.

Launching in Steam early access on December 13, the trailer showed off not only the expected sea-faring whimsy, but also the player exploring what appears to be lived-in land environments, complete with gigantic battles against four-headed dragons. What more could you want, really?

Again, it's always sensible to keep your expectations in check with early access, especially given the ambition of the project, which has a map 1,200x larger than a single Ark server, with 40,000 players reportedly able to play concurrently.

Given that Ark continues to be a janky mess, it's best to temper your expectations, even if it certainly seems like Wildcard is swinging for the fences here.
