The Game Awards 2018 Nominations: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

2. Astro Bot Rescue Mission Feels The Love

The Best VR/AR Game category was filled with quality titles such as Beat Saber, Moss, Tetris Effect and Firewall Zero Hour, and it was a relief to see Astro Bot Robot Rescue also make the cut.

The ingenious PSVR platformer is the headset's best-reviewed game to date and with damn good reason, though given its recent release, there was worry that it might get lost in the shuffle. With it and the just-released Tetris Effect both landing nods, though, the medium's very best efforts this year have certainly been well-represented.

With its cute visuals and shockingly clever platforming mechanics, Astro Bot might be 2018's most pleasant gaming surprise, to the extent that it would've been a worthy nominee for Game of the Year. Still, it's likely going to steamroll the VR category, and rightly so.
