Part Two’s story is so wildly expansive that it is reported to come across two discs for the physical copy. It comes to reason then that gamers will be playing as more than just Ellie across this epic, much like in the last game.

Many fans would be disappointed if Joel was not playable for at least a small portion of the game; similar to Ellie’s segment in the original. However, considering the inclusion of characters such as the mysterious woman so early in the marketing material suggests that their roles will be of great impact to the story, and potentially the gameplay.

Their inclusion in the released material becomes especially prevalent since the original game only featured Joel and Ellie for the near entirety of its pre-release campaign.

In an interview with French gaming site JeuxAct, the games co-lead gameplay designer Emilia Schatz commented that Naughty Dog were only ready to show Ellie for the time being, and hinted at further playable characters being revealed in the future.

LoU Part Two promises a more expansive story, touted as Naughty Dog's biggest game to date, therefore multiple playable characters would allow for the story to grow beyond its central duo.
