2. Laura Bailey Is Playing A Secret Character (That's Almost Definitely Ellie's Mum)

While Naughty Dog used the second trailer to introduce fans to a brand new cast of characters, they've purposefully kept information about one of them in the dark. The focus of the trailer, a mysterious woman played by Laura Bailey, has sparked speculation about her importance in the narrative, with a multitude of rumours swirling about who the actor could be playing.

The most prominent guess so far is that she might actually be Ellie's mother, and the entire trailer actually takes place before the events of the first game.

A couple of details point towards that being true - in particular the presence of the Fireflies (despite Joel wiping them out in the original title), and the way a character threatens to "cut the sin" out of her stomach - but Naughty Dog have refused to elaborate further on where and when the trailer takes place.

No matter who she's playing though, Laura Bailey's nameless character is set to have an integral role in the upcoming sequel.
