The One Feature All Spider-Man Games Get WRONG
Breath Of The Wild Does Climbing Better
The latest Zelda, in an attempt to give the player as much freedom as possible, lets you climb literally anything in the environment. There's challenge and a sense of progression in climbing being limited by a stamina meter (that you can upgrade) and being impacted by different weather (rain makes you slip), but that makes it so satisfying to indulge in your curiosity and climb to anywhere that catches your eye. Even better, it's smooth and fluid to actually engage with and use, as Link moves around obstacles with grace and speed.
Put simply, in this way, Zelda is actually more like Spider-Man than Spider-Man is in his own games.
While you can similarly climb anywhere you want in most games based on the web head, it's never incentivised in the same way. There are few places in the open world you can't get to faster by swinging or wall running. It's a shame though, as this is a whole plane of exploration that's being ignored, and would promote actually looking at the environment rather than quickly swinging past it.
With NYC set to be reused for most Spidey games, having these nooks and crannies that can only be found by careful wall crawling could give the city more depth and detail, setting it apart from versions of it that players have swung through so many times before.
