The Outer Worlds: 10 Ways It'll Blow Fallout Out The Water
8. Your Reputation Is Important Again
Another mechanic that was noticeably missing from Fallout 4 was the karma system. Existing in previous entries to the franchise, karma was how your character’s deeds effected your reputation. Both the rewards and consequences of these actions would follow you throughout the campaign.
Depending on the karma score that your character had accrued, different companions were available, factions could become more hostile, and the way some quests played out had the potential to change drastically as a result. There was an incentive to play both a high and low karma build, which in turn gave the games a higher replay value.
There hasn’t been a huge amount of information released on the reputation system for Outer Worlds, but Obsidian have confirmed that this mechanic will indeed be included. One thing that has been made clear is that companions can abandon the player entirely if they aren’t happy with how they act.
This means that your play style in Outer Worlds will be very important. A decision that benefits you may come at the cost of an important teammate. Similarly, we may see disputes between party members in which the player is forced to choose sides and risk losing support from the opposed companion.
