The Outer Worlds: 10 Ways It's Already Better That Fallout 4
4. More Combat Options
Fallout 4 promised massive control over how you approached each encounter with any enemies, but the modding opportunities often felt a bit lacklustre and resulted in you inevitably being funnelled into the same sorts of weapons, without championing variety too much.
Obsidian have clearly thought all about combat during the development of The Outer Worlds, as it's what we have seen the most footage of. Players have been seen equipped with a whole host of weapons, from wicked scythes, energy weapons, more traditional pistols and combat rifles. We also have "Science weapons", which are specific variations on weapons that offer unique effects. We've now seen both a shrink ray and a stun baton called the 'mandibular rearranger', which has a chance to change the size and shape of your enemy's head every time you hit them.
Weapon variety isn't the only opportunity to customise how you approach combat, either. There's different types of ammo, several types of elemental damage, not to mention the situational abilities that your companions will have, Tactical Time Dilation, and the essential perks you'll be picking up as you level up.
