The Witcher 3: 10 Things You Didn't Know
3. It Contains Dozens Of Real-World References
Throughout their playthrough of The Witcher 3, many players picked up on some of the not-so-subtle references throughout the game. There are certainly plenty of them to go around...
Near Lindenvale resides a church with two angel statues outside. Turning one’s back on the angels and then turning back again causes them to change positions, referencing the Weeping Angels from BBC’s Doctor Who.
The DLC pack Blood and Wine is filled with fairytale references, such as Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Little Red Riding Hood, as well as a campfire hinting to everyone’s favourite fairytale… uh… Dark Souls?
There are more Game of Thrones references than one could possibly know what to do with, such as the dwarf’s corpse inside a Skycell that is Definitely Not Tyrion Lannister, as well as the dosages of “milk of the poppy” and the child NPC’s sword named Needle.
There are plenty more of these references sneakily woven into the game: dialogue of old memes, Monty Python quotes, a reskinned Addams Family in the village of Lurtch, and countless others. We don’t recommend trying to catch them all.
