18. Emhyr Var Emries

As the main instigator of Geralt's search for Ciri across Velen, Novigrad and Skellige, Emhyr var Emries plays a major role in the events of Wild Hunt. His relationship with both Ciri and Geralt is fraught with tension, and some of the exchanges between Emhyr and the witcher are particularly spiky.

Emhyr is direct, pointed; and selfish to the point of sheer infuriation. Like Geralt, he's not one to waste or mince his words. Unlike Geralt, however, there's simply no hint of charm to his dialogue and his malicious single-mindedness never carries the benefit of being particularly entertaining.

The continual role Emhyr plays in events will constantly have players questioning his true loyalties, before ultimately realising he has no ulterior motive other than securing his own wishes. He is relatable, in a way, but in reality he is far more detestable by the end.
